In order to promote the high-quality development of the litchi industry and strengthen the promotion of new varieties, the 2021 new litchi new varieties will be sponsored by the Secretariat of the National Committee of Experts for Major Scientific Research Joint Research on Litchi Varieties and the National Litchi and Longan Industrial Technology System Breeding Laboratory. The variety on-site observation and tasting meeting was held in Luzhou. A total of more than 30 people from Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Fujian, Hainan, Sichuan, Chongqing and other countries such as the major scientific research joint combination of lychee varieties and the national lychee and longan industrial technology system participated in the meeting. In particular, Qiu Xiaohua, the second-level inspector of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangdong Province, and Wu Shihao, deputy director of the Planting Department were invited to participate in the meeting. Related leaders from the Guangdong Agricultural Technology Extension Center and the Guangdong Agricultural Cooperation Promotion Center with Foreign Countries and Farmers also participated in the meeting.

The on-site observation and tasting meeting of new lychee varieties was held at the Luzhou Regional Test Base of the National Litchi Variety Major Scientific Research Joint Research Base of the Luzhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences. A total of 19 new lychee varieties that have been produced in the regional test base were exhibited on site, and experts were organized. The individual fruit weight, soluble solids, edible rate, scorch core rate and other traits of each variety were tasted.

Luzhou New Litchi Variety Regional Test Base (hereinafter referred to as Regional Test Base) longitude 105.5667, latitude 28.8966, altitude 235 m, annual average temperature 18-18.6℃, ≥10℃ annual accumulated temperature 5735.7-6230.0℃, coldest monthly temperature 7 -7.8℃, extreme minimum temperature -2.4℃, frost-free period of about 350d, annual sunshine 1288.6-1400 h, annual rainfall 1142 mm, relative humidity 84%. The construction of the regional test base started in 2016. By July 2021, 15 acres had been built, 32 tested varieties and 4 control varieties were planted. Each variety was divided into 5 plants as a plot. 540 plants were planted repeatedly for 3 times, and 10 new plants were built. 13 acres of newly-bred varieties (lines) were introduced, and the root trees were all'Dahongpao' litchi, and the new varieties were replaced by high-position grafting. The regional test base undertakes the important task of adaptability test of new varieties in China's late-maturing litchi production area, covering an area of 350,000 mu in my country's late-maturing litchi production area.

Through the on-site observation and tasting of new lychee varieties, the experts put forward good suggestions for the development of late-maturing lychee in Luzhou, and they have greater confidence in the development of my country's lychee seed industry. Professor Hu Guibing, the chief expert on major scientific research joint research of national lychee varieties, suggested that through continuous on-site observation and tasting sessions, the most suitable new lychee varieties for planting in Luzhou and the entire middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River should be screened as soon as possible, so as to promote the transformation of scientific research results and benefit the majority of fruit farmers.
